It was fantastic to join colleagues from Bridgend County Borough Council and the Mayor, Cllr Heidi Bennett, for the official opening of Bryntirion Comprehensive School’s new 3G pitch.

The £400,000 investment has completely transformed the school’s old artificial pitch, creating a fantastic new facility for pupils as well as local residents, grassroots teams and sports clubs.

It was also great to see the new mural celebrating Bridgend-born former Cymru internationals Laura McAllister and Gwennan Harries – a brilliant way to recognise two local sporting success stories and hopefully inspire the next generation.

The project has been made possible through funding from the Cymru Football Foundation, Welsh Government through Sport Wales and the Community Focused Schools Fund, and Bridgend County Borough Council.

Investing in facilities like this makes a real difference. It gives young people and the wider community somewhere high-quality to play, train and stay active for many years to come.

A brilliant example of partnership working delivering something that the whole community can benefit from.
