It was great to visit Coety Primary School on Friday morning and join Patrick from the UK Parliament Outreach team for a brilliant session with pupils.
We talked about how Parliament works, what MPs and members of the House of Lords do, how laws are made and, importantly, how young people can make their voices heard.
The pupils asked some fantastic questions and it was great to see them getting involved!
There are some brilliant opportunities available for schools across Bridgend & Porthcawl to help bring politics and democracy to life.
UK Parliament’s Outreach team can deliver free, interactive sessions in schools for primary, secondary and post-16 learners. Schools can also arrange educational visits to Parliament in Westminster, including a tour of the Palace of Westminster and a workshop at the Parliamentary Education Centre. Eligible schools may also be able to receive help towards travel costs.
And with UK Parliament Week taking place from 23rd–29th November, now is a great time for schools to get involved. Free resources are available to help pupils learn about Parliament and democracy through debates, quizzes, votes and other activities.
I’ve really enjoyed visiting schools right across Bridgend & Porthcawl over the past couple of years, and I’m always happy to visit more.
So, if you’re a teacher and would like me to come along and chat with your pupils about what I do as their local MP — please get in touch!
