Chris Elmore MP has thanked residents across Bridgend & Porthcawl after receiving hundreds of nominations for his Community Pub Hero Award.
The Six Bells in Coity received the strongest support and was announced as the constituency’s Community Pub Hero. Chris has now formally nominated the pub for the national Community Pub Awards.
The Haywain in Brackla, Llangewydd Arms in Broadlands, White Horse in Coychurch and Three Horse Shoes in Cefn Cribwr completed the top five, while many other pubs across the constituency also received warm nominations.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“The response was fantastic. We received hundreds of nominations, each explaining what makes a particular local pub so special.
“The Six Bells received the strongest support, and I’m delighted to have now formally nominated the pub for the national award.
“What stood out most was the pride people have in their local pubs and the important role they play in bringing communities together. I want to thank everyone who took part and congratulate every pub nominated.”
Residents praised The Six Bells for placing itself “firmly at the heart of the community” through events, live music, fundraising and its friendly welcome.
One nomination for The Haywain said that, since Brackla RFC took over, it had become “a real community hub where people of all ages can meet and feel part of something”.
The Llangewydd Arms was recognised for working to become more autism-friendly, including providing quiet areas so more families can enjoy the pub.
The Three Horse Shoes was praised as a pub “bought and refurbished by the community” and now run “by and for the community”, while residents said the new team at The White Horse had given the village pub “a fresh lease of life”.
The Coach and Little Bar on the Bridge in Bridgend, The Two Brewers in Brackla and The Jolly Sailor in Newton were also among the notable nominees celebrated by residents.
