Chris Elmore MP has called on Royal Mail to reconsider its decision to move Pen-y-Fai’s long-serving postie, Paul Esaw, away from his regular route.
Following concerns raised by residents, Chris has written to Royal Mail’s Senior Public Affairs Manager, Michael Hogg, urging the company and the team at Bridgend Delivery Office to keep Paul on the Pen-y-Fai route.
Chris is supporting the community’s campaign alongside Cllr Heidi Bennett, who represents Pen-y-fai and Court Colman.
Paul has served the village for many years and has built up an invaluable knowledge of the community and its challenging rural route. Residents have also spoken warmly about the care he shows during his rounds, including regularly looking out for people who may be older, vulnerable or living alone.
Chris said:
“This is not about questioning the abilities of other postal workers. It is about recognising the experience, trust and genuine pastoral care Paul has built up within Pen-y-Fai over many years.
“Moving him away from the route would mean losing that knowledge and asking somebody new to begin building those important relationships from scratch.
“I am urging Royal Mail and the team at Bridgend Delivery Office to listen to residents, reconsider this decision and keep Paul on the Pen-y-Fai route.”
Chris will keep residents updated when he receives a response from Royal Mail.
