Around 10,978 families across Bridgend & Porthcawl are expected to benefit from the UK Labour Government’s new Great British Summer of Savings, helping make the school summer holidays more affordable while supporting local businesses.
Running from 25th June until 1st September 2026, the temporary cost of living support scheme reduces VAT from 20% to 5% on eligible children’s meals, family attractions and activities, with the expectation that participating businesses pass the savings on through lower prices.
The scheme is designed to help families enjoy more affordable days out during the school holidays while boosting trade for local hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses during one of their busiest periods of the year.
Chris Elmore, Member of Parliament for Bridgend & Porthcawl, said:
“The school summer holidays can be an expensive time for many families, so I’m delighted that around 10,978 families across Bridgend & Porthcawl are expected to benefit from the Great British Summer of Savings. Whether it’s enjoying a family meal, visiting an attraction or making the most of everything our local area has to offer, this support will help reduce costs while also encouraging people to support local businesses. It’s a positive step that will help families make lasting memories together while giving a welcome boost to our local economy.”
The Great British Summer of Savings forms part of the UK Labour Government’s wider commitment to supporting working families with the cost of living while backing high streets and businesses.
