Chris Elmore MP has welcomed the announcement by the UK Labour Government of a package of measures aimed at helping drivers, hauliers and farmers with ongoing fuel and transport costs, including extending the 5p fuel duty cut until the end of the year.
The decision means drivers and businesses across Bridgend & Porthcawl will continue to benefit from lower fuel costs at a time when many households are still feeling pressure from the wider cost of living and global economic challenges. The extension is expected to help keep costs down for people who rely on their vehicle every day for work, family life and running local businesses.
The announcement also includes a reduction in red diesel duty, which will be particularly important for farmers and agricultural businesses already dealing with rising costs and wider pressures facing the sector. Additional support for hauliers has also been confirmed to help with transport and operating costs.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“These measures will be welcome news for many drivers, businesses, farmers and hauliers across Bridgend & Porthcawl who continue to face pressure from fuel and operating costs. Extending the 5p fuel duty cut and reducing red diesel duty are practical steps that will help people, support local industries and ease some of the financial pressure many are still experiencing.
“I’m pleased to see the UK Labour Government continuing to take action as part of its Plan for Change, helping support working people and businesses while responding to ongoing global economic challenges.”
