Over the weekend, Chris Elmore MP spent time across the constituency, meeting with residents, volunteers and community groups, and listening to the issues that matter most to them.

In Porthcawl, Chris joined local residents at the Surfers Against Sewerage protest, taking the opportunity to hear directly from people about their concerns and what they are experiencing locally along the coastline, including around Sandy Bay. Having long challenged Welsh Water on water quality issues, he continues to work alongside campaigners and communities to press for improvements.

“People are rightly concerned about the state of our rivers and seas. It’s important their voices are heard, and I’ll keep working with them to push for change” Chris said.

Earlier in the day, Chris helped to open the new Porthcawl Wombles hub next to Grow and Grind, located by the Hi-Tide car park overlooking Sandy Bay. He has worked with the group for over a year to help secure funding for equipment and a permanent base for volunteers. The new hub will support the Wombles’ ongoing efforts to care for local spaces and protect the environment.

“The Wombles are a brilliant example of what community action can achieve. It’s been great to support them in getting a space of their own to build on that work” he added.

Chris also thanked Bridgend County Borough Council for providing the container and funding much of the equipment, recognising the value of supporting local volunteers.

Chris also stopped by MegzFest at the Two Brewers in Brackla, an event organised by Jess Sim in memory of her daughter Megan. This year’s event was especially meaningful, marking what would have been Megan’s 16th birthday.

MegzFest is raising funds for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice, which supports children, young people and their families. Chris spoke about the sense of togetherness at the event and the impact of Jess’s work.

“What Jess has created is incredibly special. It’s about remembering Megan Jayne, but also about bringing people together and supporting other families who need it” Chris said.

In Laleston, Chris visited St David’s Church as part of celebrations marking its 800th anniversary. The event highlighted the church’s long history, with records and displays offering a glimpse into centuries of local heritage.

“There’s a real sense of history here, but also of community. It’s clear how much this church continues to mean to people today” he said.

Chris met Rev Roger, Rev Mark and the many volunteers who support the church and the wider Ministry Area of Pen‑y‑bont ar Ogwr. Further events will take place throughout the anniversary year.
