Chris Elmore MP has welcomed today’s King’s Speech, setting out the UK Government’s legislative agenda for the next Parliamentary session, with a clear focus on delivering stronger economic security, improved public services, and greater opportunities for communities across the constituency.
The King’s Speech builds on progress made by the UK Government, including landmark employment rights, the removal of the two-child benefit cap, action on violence against women, and increases to the minimum wage — changes that have already come into effect and will make a difference for people across Bridgend & Porthcawl.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“Over the last two years, we have achieved a lot, but I recognise acutely that for many constituents, change is not happening fast enough. People want to see and feel it in their communities after 14 years of austerity and cuts.”
The legislative programme set out today includes a wide range of positive measures designed to strengthen economic security, expand opportunity, boost energy independence, enhance national security, and deliver long-overdue reforms to public services.
These plans will help support jobs, grow the economy, strengthen workers’ rights, invest in housing and infrastructure, and improve public services, including the NHS — delivering real benefits locally for residents and families.
“That is why the legislation set out for the next session is focused on going faster and further in delivering the change people want to see.”
Chris Elmore added that he will continue working to ensure the Bridgend & Porthcawl constituency benefits directly from the Government’s plans, with a clear focus on delivering improvements people can see and feel in their everyday lives.
