Chris Elmore MP has welcomed clarification from Halifax regarding continued access to banking services for local residents following the planned closure of its Bridgend branch on Thursday 11th June 2026.

The closure was announced following a review of customer banking habits, which revealed a marked shift towards digital services. Halifax reported that in the 12 months leading up to January 2025, customers of its Bridgend branch made 10.2 million logins to its app and online banking platforms, alongside a rise in the use of telephone banking for everyday transactions.

Following the announcement, Chris Elmore MP wrote to Halifax seeking assurances that Bridgend residents would continue to have access to essential in-person banking services.

In response, Halifax has confirmed that customers will still be able to access face-to-face support at the Lloyds Bank branch in Bridgend, where staff are trained to assist Halifax customers. In addition, routine banking services—including cash withdrawals and deposits—will remain available through local Post Office branches.

Halifax has committed to supporting customers through the transition by offering one-to-one guidance on digital and telephone banking, as well as dedicated support sessions. Additional assistance will be available for vulnerable customers who may require extra help.

Halifax has also confirmed that it does not provide charity accounts, meaning local charitable organisations are unlikely to be directly affected. Lloyds Bank will continue to provide banking services for not-for-profit groups.

Chris Elmore MP said:
“While I am disappointed to see the closure of Halifax’s Bridgend branch, I welcome the assurances provided that residents will continue to have access to face-to-face banking services locally. It is vital that no one is left behind as banking services evolve, particularly older and vulnerable customers who may rely more heavily on in-person support.”

Customers seeking further information or support ahead of the closure are encouraged to speak directly with staff at the Bridgend branch before 11th June 2026 or visit Halifax’s Help Centre online at www.halifax.co.uk.
