Chris Elmore MP has recently been contacted by a number of residents in the Cefn Glas and Bryntirion areas of Bridgend after noticing that several local post boxes were covered and out of use.

Following enquiries made to Royal Mail, Chris has today received confirmation that these post boxes are currently being upgraded to new Digital Post Boxes as part of Royal Mail’s national rollout.

Last week, it was reported that Royal Mail is preparing to launch 3,500 Digital Post Boxes across the UK. These upgrades will provide more flexible posting options, particularly for customers who pay for postage electronically or use the Royal Mail App.

Michael Hogg at Royal Mail, said:

“The new enhancements we are introducing have been carefully designed to integrate with the existing structure, so the overall look and feel remains largely unchanged. Digital postboxes allow for more flexible posting options, maximising choice and convenience for our customers when wanting to send parcels. A customer wanting to drop off their eligible prepaid item will now be able do so 24/7.

The upgrades to the postboxes are anticipated to complete within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, a list of all available postboxes in the Cefn Glas and Bryntirion areas are available to view at: www.royalmail.com.”

Chris Elmore MP said:

“I know many residents have been asking why their local post box has been covered over recently. I’m pleased Royal Mail has confirmed these upgrades are part of wider improvements that should make posting parcels more convenient for local people. I will continue to monitor the situation closely and update residents once the works are completed.”
