Chris Elmore MP for Bridgend & Porthcawl, joined residents and staff at Picton Court Care Home in Nottage, Porthcawl on Saturday 21st June to mark the Great Get Together — a nationwide celebration of community inspired by the late Jo Cox.

Chris hosted the coffee morning to spend quality time with residents and staff, bringing people together to share stories, laughter, and a sense of connection. The care home was filled with conversation and smiles as tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits were served by Chris and the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, Councillor Huw David.

The Great Get Together is an annual event led by The Jo Cox Foundation that celebrates Jo’s powerful message: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”

Speaking at the event, Chris Elmore MP said: “It was such a joy to spend time at Picton Court Care Home and it was lovely to share time chatting with the residents, hearing their stories and enjoying their company. The warmth and energy in the room reminded me just how important these moments of connection are — especially across generations. Jo Cox was not just a colleague, but a friend. Her belief in the power of community continues to inspire me. The Great Get Together is a fantastic way to honour her legacy, and I’m proud to support the important work of the Jo Cox Foundation.”

A special thank you goes to Novomatic UK, based on the Bridgend Industrial Estate, who kindly sponsored this event as part of their ongoing work supporting our local community.

Across the UK, communities came together over the weekend to celebrate what unites us, continuing Jo Cox’s legacy of compassion, unity, and hope.
