Chris Elmore MP has welcomed further investment in community facilities across Bridgend & Porthcawl as projects supported through the UK Government’s Pride in Place funding continue to take shape.
Chris visited Heol-y-Cyw RFC on Friday 18th September, alongside Bridgend County Borough Council Leader Cllr John Spanswick, Cllrs Alex Ulberini-Williams, Melanie Evans and Richard Williams, representatives from the club and the council’s Reach Resilient Communities team, which has been supporting community organisations through the Pride in Place funding process.
The club has received £25,000 in Pride in Place funding towards vital improvements to its pitches, including primary and secondary drainage works being carried out in two phases. The investment will help bring the pitches back into the best possible condition and support the club following a challenging period financially.
During the visit, a plaque was also presented to the club to commemorate the Pride in Place investment and the improvements being made.
The visit follows a number of projects benefiting from the wider Pride in Place investment across the Bridgend & Porthcawl constituency, which Chris worked alongside the Council leadership and UK Government ministers to help secure for local communities.
Last month, Chris visited Porthcawl YMCA, which received £7,275 for a new boiler at The Y Centre, and Brackla Community Centre, which secured £10,000 towards new soffits and fascias.
More recently, Bryncethin Community Centre received £9,720 to renew its external pathway and install solar lighting, helping make the much-used community hub safer and easier to access.
At Coytrahen Watercourse, £10,000 is supporting improvements to the pathway through the popular local green space, helping make it safer and more accessible for residents and visitors.

“From community centres in Bryncethin and Brackla, to Porthcawl YMCA, Coytrahen Watercourse and Heol-y-Cyw RFC, these are projects that make a genuine difference to the people who use them.
“It was great to visit Heol-y-Cyw RFC and hear about the work being done there. Grassroots clubs play such an important role in their communities, and this £25,000 investment will help improve the pitches and support the club for the future.
“I’d also like to thank the Reach team and everyone involved in helping turn this funding into improvements that local communities will benefit from for years to come.”
