Chris Elmore MP has welcomed the first projects to benefit from £3 million in Pride in Place funding secured through his work with Bridgend County Borough Council’s leadership and UK Government ministers.
Set up by the UK Labour Government, the fund supports investment in local communities through improvements to buildings, public spaces and the facilities that bring people together.
Chris recently joined Councillor John Spanswick, Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, to visit Porthcawl YMCA and Brackla Community Centre and see how the funding is already making a difference.
Porthcawl YMCA has received £7,275 for a new boiler at The Y Centre on John Street, helping ensure the busy community hub remains warm and welcoming for its many groups, activities and events.
Brackla Community Centre has secured £10,000 towards new soffits and fascias, helping protect a building used by residents of all ages for exercise, crafts, social groups, children’s activities and much more.
Further awards include £9,720 for Bryncethin Community Centre to improve its external pathway and install solar lighting, and £10,000 for Pencoed Town Council towards new lighting at the Heol y Groes car park.

“Community buildings and public spaces are at the heart of so many local neighbourhoods. It was great to visit Porthcawl YMCA and Brackla Community Centre with Councillor John Spanswick and see how this funding will make a real difference.
“These practical improvements will help protect and improve facilities that local people rely on day in and day out.
“I was pleased to work closely with the council leadership in Bridgend and UK Government ministers to bring this £3 million investment to our area. It is already being put to good use on projects across the constituency.”
