Following recent news from Santander that they will close their Bridgend branch at 13 Adare Street on 12th May 2026, I have since maintained contact with Santander to seek clarity on what support will remain available for customers locally.

I know this announcement has caused concern for many residents across the Bridgend & Porthcawl constituency, particularly those who rely on in-person banking, including older customers, small businesses, and people who may find it more difficult to access online services. I have raised these concerns directly with Santander and stressed the importance of maintaining accessible, face-to-face provision in our community.

Santander have now confirmed that they will introduce a “Santander Local” service in Bridgend. This will be staffed by a dedicated Community Banker, ensuring customers can continue to access in-person support.

The Community Banker will be available every Tuesday from 19th May, between 9.30am and 5pm, at Comgem, 5 Dunraven Place, Bridgend.

While this is not a replacement for a full-time branch, I welcome this commitment to maintaining a physical presence in Bridgend. I will continue to engage with Santander to ensure that the needs of local people are met and that customers are properly supported during this transition.
