Chris Elmore MP has welcomed the new Brackla skate park, opened officially with a vibrant Skate Jam
event on Wednesday 1st April for local children and young people during the Easter holidays.
Speaking at the event,
Chris Elmore MP said:
“It’s fantastic to attend the opening and see so many young people enjoying these brilliant new
facilities. The atmosphere has been fantastic, and it’s clear this will be a hugely valued space for our
young community.”
The new state-of-the-art concrete skatepark replaces the previous steel-framed wooden facility and
represents a major investment in local youth provision, delivered through a partnership working
between Bridgend County Borough Council, local councillors, youth services and specialist partners.
Chris Elmore MP praised the collaborative effort behind the project:
“This has truly been a team effort, with Brackla councillors Cllr John Spanswick, Cllr Eugene
Capparos, Cllr Johanna Llewellyn-Hopkins, Cllr Bill Kendall and Cllr Simon Griffiths working
alongside the council to deliver a high-quality, modern skate park for the whole community.”
The development followed extensive consultation with young people to ensure the design met local
needs and was delivered ahead of schedule, despite challenging site conditions.
Chris Elmore MP added:
“This skate park has been talked about for many years, and it’s fantastic to see it delivered. It’s a real testament to strong local leadership and partnership working.”
Chris also highlighted wider support for young people, with Bridgend Youth Support services
attending the opening:
“It was great to see the youth support team at the event, showcasing the range of services available
locally. The Bridgend Youth Hub is part of a new UK Government initiative making a real difference,
bringing together employment, training and support for 16–24 year olds.”
Based at Evergreen Hall at the Civic Offices on Angel Street, Bridgend, the Bridgend Youth Hub
provides integrated support through collaboration between Jobcentre Plus, local services, employers
and training providers.
Chris Elmore MP concluded:
“The new skate park is a fantastic asset for Brackla and the wider Bridgend community,
demonstrating a strong commitment to investing in the next generation.”
