A year on from establishing the Bridgend Regeneration Working Group, it was fantastic to come together on Friday 27th March and welcome Jake Morgan, Chief Executive of Bridgend County Borough Council, for an in-depth and positive discussion about the future of our town centre. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review progress over the past year, share updates on key projects, and consider the next steps to ensure the ongoing transformation of Bridgend.
Momentum in the town centre is steadily building. The Council’s recent purchase of the Rhiw Shopping Centre gives it a direct stake in the heart of Bridgend and presents a major opportunity to accelerate regeneration. This move will not only attract investment but also allow for long-term renewal that benefits the entire community, from local businesses to residents and visitors.
There are several exciting developments on the horizon. The new Bridgend College campus remains on track to open later this year, offering state-of-the-art facilities and enhanced educational opportunities for local students. Additionally, Valleys to Coast is relocating to Wyndham House, strengthening the town centre as a hub for essential services and creating a more vibrant business environment. During the discussion, we also explored ways to secure further funding from both the UK and Welsh Governments as opportunities arise, ensuring that the regeneration projects are fully supported and sustainable for the long term.
The new town centre Police Inspector provided an update on the local police station, which is now operating from Ravens Court near Tesco. Investment has been secured for significant upgrades later this year, improving both safety and accessibility in the heart of the town. These measures are designed to support a welcoming and secure environment for everyone who lives, works, or visits Bridgend.
By working together, we are determined to do everything possible to ensure Bridgend town centre undergoes a transformation we can all be proud of. As always, I will continue to provide updates to constituents about progress and future developments in our town centre.
