The Bridgend Combined Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club has been formally recognised for its outstanding contribution to the local Armed Forces community. The recognition comes through the Defence Secretary’s Nominate a Local Hero initiative, accompanied by a letter of commendation signed by Defence Secretary John Healey MP.
Chris Elmore MP helped facilitate the nomination and delivered the letter on behalf of the Defence Secretary. The letter was accepted by Steve Lovell, who runs the club and has played a central role in supporting veterans across Bridgend & Porthcawl. The award highlights the remarkable work Steve has done to help the community thrive, while celebrating the collective effort of the entire club, which has become a vital source of support, camaraderie and connection for local veterans and serving personnel.
Chris Elmore MP said: “This recognition rightly shines a light on the Bridgend Combined Services Breakfast Club and the incredible community they’ve built. The support they offer veterans is invaluable, and I was pleased to help ensure their work was acknowledged at a national level. Steve and the whole team deserve enormous credit for what they do.”
Steve Lovell said: “I’m honoured to accept this letter of recognition on behalf of myself and Bridgend Combined Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club. Thank you.”
The club brings together local veterans and serving members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, offering a welcoming space built on shared experience and mutual support. Many members describe it as a lifeline, providing the camaraderie they remember from their service days.
The group meets on the second Saturday of each month at 9.15am.
