A new volunteer group is making a real difference in Pencoed! On Saturday 20th September, Chris Elmore MP joined volunteers as the newly formed Pencoed Trailblazers held their first community action day to improve access to footpaths and green spaces.

Seventeen volunteers worked together to clear 410 metres of public footpaths, collect 55kg of litter, and reopen two previously blocked paths, helping make the countryside safer and more accessible for everyone. Support from Pencoed Town Council provided essential equipment and ensured the day ran smoothly.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“It was fantastic to join the Pencoed Trailblazers. Even in the drizzle, volunteers turned out in force to transform our local paths – a great example of what can be achieved when our community comes together. A big thank you to everyone who gave up part of their Saturday to make such a positive difference for Pencoed and I look forward to working with you in the future.”

Event organiser Stuart Bain added:

“I’m genuinely proud of everyone who came out to support our first session. There’s something really satisfying about seeing our paths become more accessible for everyone in the community — whether you’re out for a walk, taking the kids to explore, or just enjoying the fresh air. We’re not just tidying up; we’re making a real difference for people today and for generations to come.”
