Chris Elmore, Member of Parliament for Bridgend & Porthcawl, has praised the work of Action for Children’s Bridgend Families First Parenting service during a visit to their centre in Brackla this week.

Action for Children works in communities across the UK to provide practical and caring support for children and families, stepping in when help is needed most. With 372 local services nationwide — including their work in Brackla — the charity delivers support directly in communities, where it can make the greatest impact.

Their work ranges from supporting families with disabled children and young carers, to offering free or low-cost parenting classes through children’s centres, as well as running events for prospective foster parents.

The Bridgend Families First Parenting service takes a whole-family approach, recognising that every family is unique and deserves tailored support. With a strong focus on the early years, the team helps under-fives get ready for school through play sessions, speech therapy, health interventions, and parenting programmes. Working in close partnership with health visitors, midwives, and other local professionals, the service provides families with the tools and confidence to thrive.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“It is inspiring to see first-hand the incredible work being done at Bridgend Families First. This service is a lifeline for many families in our community, providing the guidance, care and support they need to give children the best possible start in life. I am hugely grateful to Action for Children and all the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to make a difference.”
