Chris Elmore MP recently visited the newly refurbished tennis courts at Griffin Park, Porthcawl, following a £109,000 investment from the UK Government and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
Chris was joined by the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, Cllr Huw David, Council Leader Cllr John Spanswick, and representatives from Tennis Wales, Jamie Clewer and Stuart Baker, to see the new-look facilities already being enjoyed by local residents.
The investment has brought new life to Griffin Park’s courts and also supported improvements at Heol y Cyw Park, located at the other end of the Bridgend and Porthcawl constituency. Together, these upgrades mark a significant boost for local sport—creating safe, modern spaces that encourage people of all ages to get active and enjoy the game.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“I’ve worked with the Lawn Tennis Association for a few years, so it’s fantastic to see this investment come to life in our communities. It’s particularly great news for families and young people during the summer months. When I visited, it was brilliant to see so many children and families making the most of the new courts right on our doorstep.
I don’t think the Mayor and I will be heading to Wimbledon any time soon, but it’s clear these courts are already inspiring the next generation of tennis players!”
These improvements are part of a wider initiative to encourage participation in sport and physical activity, helping to build healthier, more active, and better-connected communities across the UK.
