I’m pleased to share a positive update regarding the future of the Bridgend town centre Post Office branch at Dunraven Place.
Since last autumn, the branch has been listed as ‘at risk’—a decision that caused real concern for many local residents and businesses. I wrote to the Post Office seeking clarity on why the branch had been placed on the list, especially with so little notice and no local consultation.
The Post Office has now confirmed that it plans to franchise all remaining directly managed branches across the UK. This means that instead of being run by the Post Office itself, these branches will be operated by franchise partners.
Importantly for Bridgend town centre, I’ve been assured that there has been strong interest from potential franchise partners. As a result, our town centre branch is not closing. It will be franchised and remain open, either in its current location or nearby, continuing to offer the vital in-person services that so many people rely on.
This is a really welcome outcome for Bridgend. Protecting access to essential services—especially in the heart of our town—is something I know matters deeply to our community, and I’ll continue to do all I can to ensure those services are maintained.
If there are any further updates, I’ll be sure to share them here and across my social media channels.
